The department intents to provide technical and marketing support to artisans working in the different parts of the district, specially for artisans working on woodwor , wood carving, blacksmithy, carpentery, leather products, cane and bamboo products, bee keeping, general engineering works like fitter, turners etc. and such non-land based economic activities in the rural areas of the district.

Under various schemes of state government and zilla panchayat, training is given to different artisans, subsidy towards equipments necessary for starting their own business, technical supervision and support and marketing assistance. Special schemes are also being implemented on the above lines for scheduled castes and tribes under special component plan and tribal sub plan.

Assistance also provided for industrial cooperative societies for share capital, loan assistance, assistance for equipment purchase and raw material purchase and subsidy is given towards part of the loan.

Under the rural artisan scheme, women benefeciaries are given training for tailoring and on completion of training they are distributed with sewing machines.

• Providing margin money for tiny and Small Scale Industrial units
• Provide Industrial Co-operative grants
• To provide share capital loan to become new member in industrial co-operative banks
• Provide share capital loan to industrial co-operative societies
• Interest Subsidy for Artisans Including Artisans of Tiny Industries.
• Apiculture.

      There is a training centre at Sagar town of Sagar Taluk. Educational tours will be conducted to the Artisans to acquire field knowledge and on other related matters. During 2004-05, 62 Artisans have been trained under Sandalwood Carving, Wood Carving, Cane products making..etc.

      Annual Plan budget of the department for the year 2005-06 is Rs.3.51 Lakhs.
