WOMEN AND CHILD WELFARE DEVELOPMENT

The department of women and child development is one of the major departments in the district implementing variety of programmes for the development of women & children. The main objective includes development of women & children, protecting children from being neglected, exploited, prevent destitution and delinquency, provide alternative shelter based rehabilitation through institutional treatment, improve health nutritional status of children and women, create awareness among rural women to improve overall living conditions.

The department has developed many programmes in fulfillment of the above objectives. ICDS scheme covers all the 7 talukas of the district. The department is also responsible for prevention of juvenile linguency, destitution & negligence of children by parents and is running an observation home, a juvenile home under government sector and 7 destitute cottages run by NGO's are given financial assistance. All the services are provided through an Anganwadi centre and there are 1303 anganwadi workers in the district providing services to the pregnant & lactating women with nutritional food 300 days in a year, immunising children and pregnant women and other basic services.
